97.3 FM’s Bianca Dye admits it’s been a ‘confronting day’ following sensational headlines
Bianca Dye, part of the trio who make up the Bianca, Mike and Bob breakfast program on 97.3 FM in Brisbane, has found herself on the front page of The Sunday Mail today, admitting the “sensationalistic” and “clickbait” headline has been difficult to deal with.
Dye has a well-documented battle to conceive a biological child in recent years, and this week was due to appear in the News Corp-owned The Sunday Mail in its U On Sunday lift out.
Dye has found the front-page coverage ‘confronting’
The story details her conception battles, including miscarriage, and reveals she’s out of options for conceiving a biological child with her current partner. Her only option, according to the story, is to use some frozen embryos from a previous relationship – something her current partner is grappling with.
Dye said the whole point of giving the story to the paper was to remind women that they need to remember to freeze their eggs.
She was not, however, expecting the story to end up on the front page of the entire paper, with the headline ‘I love you darling but: I want to have my ex’s baby’.
“Of course journalism and papers and sensationalistic headlines is all part of the whole clickbait thing. I know, I work in media, I get how it works. [My partner] Jay’s a little shocked though. He wasn’t expecting front page and a picture of him on the front page, especially with that headline, so it’s been a bit of a confronting day, I’m not going to lie. Poor Jay. I love him very much, and this has been very hard on him,” Dye told her followers on Instagram.
The online version of the story now has the amended headline: I’m in love with this man, but I can only have a baby with my ex.

Despite the difficulties the front page has caused, Dye said the actual story in the U On Sunday lift out is a great one, and one she hopes can help other women.
“But, anyway, hopefully the message that I wanted to get across is that women, there is an option to freeze eggs, and don’t get into the position I’m in, because it’s a frikken awkward one,” she said.
Dye joined ARN’s 97.3 FM in 2017, following the departure of long-term host Robin Bailey.
She initially formed part of the Bianca, Terry and Bob show, alongside former Bailey co-hosts Terry Hansen and Bob Gallagher.
In June last year, however, Hansen announced his departure, citing debilitating and constant fatigue. He had to, he said, put his health and family first.
Hansen was then replaced by Mike van Acker to form Bianca, Mike and Bob.
In the most recent radio ratings survey, the breakfast slot on 97.3 FM had a 9.7% share, up 0.4 points from the last survey. This put it on par with SCA’s Hit 105, but behind 4KQ (10.4%), Nova 106.9 (11.8%), and Triple M 104.5 (11.4%).
97.3 FM is a joint venture between Australian Radio Network (ARN) and Nova Entertainment.

I think you’ve missed the point. There is an argument she ran about the need to not sensationalise and that she shared her story for the reason of promoting egg storage with what I perceive is a motivation to help others. Cooperating with a journalist, or even seeding a story, is different vs calling out sensationalism that doesn’t have regard for the emotional and mental wellbeing of those involved
As a husband involved in numerous cycles myself, I can only ask that due consideration given to the emotional and mental wellbeing of the partners as well who go through this journey. This is more than often ignored. Sensationalism like this does not nothing to help anyone in this type of journey. If anything this story in itself has inadvertently called out the need to consider sensitivity to those involved in what is usually a very personal journey, and be considerate of how we treat it in the public sphere when we do.
