DesignStudio appoints David Storey to lead APAC region

Branding agency DesignStudio has appointed former Omnicom-owned Interbrand Sydney managing director David Storey to lead its business across Asia Pacific.

Storey replaces Mark Liney who is returning to the UK to lead DesignStudio’s London operations after nearly two years with the agency in the region. Liney joined DesignStudio from M&C Saatchi’s brand consultancy Re where he was managing partner in mid 2019.

DesignStudio CEO Paul Stafford said the agency has “ambitious plans to grow” its presence across APAC and that Storey’s breadth of experience makes him “ideally placed”, along with the team in Sydney, to lead the next chapter of growth.

He added: “Mark has done an outstanding job, in a short period of time, and it’s great to be keeping him in the business and use his knowledge of APAC to further bring together our three studios into a truly global offering.”

For the past decade, Storey has specialised in brand-led, organisational change as both a practitioner and leader. He joins DesignStudio after three years of strategic consulting for organisations across infrastructure, retail, arts and culture, not-for-profit, finance, broadcast and digital media.

Speaking on his appointment, Storey said: “The work being produced by DesignStudio in the region is world class and I’m looking forward to building on the strong foundations that have already been laid. We have an opportunity to do things differently in APAC as it’s not bound by traditional branding codes. There’s also a vibrant technology-based market developing truly innovative products and services that require strong strategic branding expertise which we have the experience to deliver.”

DesignStudio, which developed the Airbnb, Deliveroo and Premier League brands, amongst many other high profile businesses, opened its APAC office in Sydney three years ago. Since then it has worked on major branding projects for Grab, ExpressVPN, Ant Group, owners of China’s largest digital payment platform Alipay and Go1.
